Photos: Hundreds of people plunge into the North Sea for a mass charity skin dip

Hundreds of people bared all and plunged into the chilly waters of the North Sea for a mass skinny dip.

Almost 500 stripped down to their birthday suits for the North East Skinny Dip, off the coast Druridge Bay, in Northumberland, to raise money for mental health charity MIND.

The annual event, which is now in it’s fifth year, takes place at sunrise on the Sunday after the autumn equinox – which occurred last Thursday.

The events organiser Jax Higginson, a 38-year-old paramedic from Sunderland, said that this year’s turnout was the best she had ever seen.
She said: ‘It has done really well and been really big this year.
‘That means that we have raised a lot of money.

‘I took part in a similar even for charity in Wales in 2011 and I really wanted to recreate the same kind of thing here.
‘The atmosphere was just really beautiful and there was a magical energy.
‘Since the dip has been going on for five years now we even have regulars that come back every year – it really is like a skinny-dipping community.’
