A British couple drugged a young girl and streamed live webcam video of themselves sexually abusing as a paedophile in the US watched, a court heard.
Sarah Gotham, 34, and her now former partner Craig Forbes, 36, indecently touched the youngster, aged five, during a Skype video call with a woman in California, a jury was told.
The couple allegedly had sex with each other while the child, wearing a nightie, was next to them on a bed.
Gotham has gone on trial after denying six counts of sexually abusing a child under the age of 13 between December 2012 and March 2013, the Plymouth Herald reports.
Plymouth Crown Court heard that paedophile Kori Ellis was arrested in San Francisco and admitted watching a man and a woman sexually abusing a girl on Skype – whom she identified as Gotham and Forbes.
In her opening statement, Heather Hope, prosecuting, said Gotham, of Plymouth, and Forbes indecently touched the child several times.
Miss Hope said: “This abuse was streamed live over a webcam so it could be viewed by a woman in San Francisco called Kori Ellis. The child was most probably drugged and was at the time unaware of what was happening to her.”
She said that sometimes Gotham abused the girl alone and on other occasions with Forbes.
Miss Hope said that there was no direct evidence as to the identity of the child.
She told the jury that the investigation started when the FBI and police traced Ellis through her online activity to her flat in San Francisco in April 2015.
Miss Hope said Ellis immediately confessed that she was a paedophile and agreed to co-operate with officers in return for a reduction in sentence.
She said Ellis said she had contacted a man and a woman called Craig and Sarah through a “chat roulette” site by entering the word “paedo” or “paedophile” in the area of shared interest.
Miss Hope added she swapped Skype details with them.
