‘Black women like me need to fight the pay gap’ – Serena Williams

The world’s highest-earning female athlete urged black women to be ‘fearless’ and to ‘fight for every penny’.
Writing in Fortune magazine, the top tennis star wrote: ‘Speak out for equal pay. Every time you do, you’re making it a little easier for a woman behind you.’

As July 31 was Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, Serena and other black female figures rallied online to post awareness of the shocking pay gap.
The 35-year-old, who is pregnant with her first child, tweeted an image of herself in a ‘phenomenal women’ tee, captioning it: ‘July 31 is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. Black women are the cornerstone of our communities, they are phenomenal, and they deserve equal pay.’
